Software
While corporate operations of Civil Solutions did not begin until the early
part of 1996, our software programs have been used by engineers in northern
California since 1990 (previously distributed directly by the founder). In 1988,
Thomas began work on "a better drainage program". Along the way several
'splinter' programs were developed and released including NORMHYD™ and CS
BACKWATER CALCULATOR™. These applications were later combined with the CS
VERTCURV™ program, a simplified vertical curve solver, to create the CS UTILITY
SUITE. Version 3.0 of this software upgraded it's printing and graphing
capabilities and expanded the operation to the 32-bit desktop.
With the advances of the Windows™ operating systems, and development platforms
for those operating systems by Microsoft Corporation, we were finally able to
implement the use of our Peak Incremental Combined Hydraulics & and Hydrology
(PICHH-16) software program in the spring of 1996. The latest release of the
software was offered in August of 1999 under the name CS DRAINAGE STUDIO version
2.2. We continue to advance the software for performance, modeling capabilities
and compatibility with local jurisdiction requirements.
We have began the development of our Hydrograph Related version of this
software. This software will utilize the most sophisticated programming
techniques to provide the computational speed necessary to accomplish complete
analysis of drainage systems which includes: multi-nodal, true self developed
hydraulic response for analysis, full hydrograph routing and analysis consistent
with all modern hydrology techniques. We believe this software will be the first
true marriage of hydraulic and time-varied-flow-hydrologic techniques.
In the early months of 1995, Thomas realized that engineering and contracting
firms would benefit from the creation of a simplified, digitizer based graphical
earthwork analysis software program for the WINDOWS™ operation system. This
software brought fast, accurate and affordable earthwork computing to the
engineers desktop. The 16-bit CS EARTHWORK™ program was completed by the summer
of 1995, and has been in use ever since. The most current version of the
software has adapted it for use on the 32-bit desktops of WINDOWS 95, 98 and NT
Workstation. The 3-dimensional graphical interface, and our unique digitizer
interface, orientation and configuration capabilities offer users the ability to
visually verify their input, and work on projects significantly larger than
their digitizer would normally permit.
